Robbie Williams (born December 28, 1986 in The Wirral , Merseyside ) is an English snooker player .

Career

To make the leap to the pros on the Main Tour , Williams took part in the tournaments of the Pontin's International Open Series between 2005 and 2010 . Between 2007 and 2010 he reached the quarter-finals once at one of the PIOS individual tournaments. He failed against the later professional players Matthew Couch , Kurt Maflin and Liam Highfield (2 ×). In the 2009/10 season he achieved his best result of the season with 14th place in the overall ranking.

In the 2010/11 season , the Q School replaced the PIOS series as a qualifying tournament series for amateurs: Williams failed once in the first round in 2011 and twice in the round of 16 (including against the eventual winner David Gilbert ) of his group. Williams also tried to compete with the professional players of the Main Tour in the tournaments of the Players Tour Championship in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons. He achieved his best result at the first event in 2011/12 when, after victories over Peter Ebdon and Allister Carter, he failed to Graeme Dott in the round of 16 .

In 2012 he won his group in the third tournament and thus received a 2-year tour ticket for the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons . In the first year he was able to collect a lot of points. In three of the five tournaments in China he reached the third qualifying round and in the PTC tournaments he only lost his opening match once and reached the last sixteen at the Paul Hunter Classic . The following season was really successful: First he achieved his best PTC result with the semi-finals at the Ruhr Open, followed by the semi-finals at the Indian Open , including victories over Shaun Murphy and Anthony McGill , at a full ranking tournament . After all, he survived all four qualifying rounds at the 2014 World Cup and played the main tournament at the Crucible Theater for the first time , where he clearly lost the first match against Neil Robertson with 2:10. In the world rankings he jumped to 62nd place and qualified for another professional year.

During the following season Williams collected more points without a particular highlight, but at the World Cup he reached the main tournament for the second time in a row and was able to keep up to 6: 6 with the eventual world champion Stuart Bingham before losing 7:10. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he was able to score again and reached the last sixteen at the Paul Hunter Classic . It was also among the top 50 in the world rankings for the first time before losing some ground again compared to previous results. At the end of the season he was at the table in the Crucible again, this time he lost just 8:10 to Ricky Walden .
