Rory McLeod (born March 26, 1971 in Wellingborough ) is an English snooker player with Jamaican roots.
Career
amateur
Between 1991 and 2001 McLeod was on the Challenge Tour until he qualified for the Snooker Main Tour in the 2001/02 season . His best result in ranked tournaments since then was the five-time entry into the round of 32.
With victories over Andy Hicks and Ian McCulloch , he qualified in 2009 as the first black player for the World Snooker Championship . Despite his elimination in the first round, he climbed to 39th place in the world rankings at the end of the 2008/09 season , a new record for him.
First professional years
In August 2009 he reached the semifinals of the high-class Paul Hunter Classic in Fürth, where he was only just eliminated from the defending champion of 2008, Shaun Murphy . In the 2009/10 season he was able to qualify for the first time for the Masters , the most important tournament on the Main Tour after the World Cup, by securing the only free place in a qualifying tournament over five rounds. However, there was the first round against Mark Williams terminus.
At the Prague Classic 2010 he scored the 76th official maximum break in snooker history against Issara Kachaiwong . The following year he qualified with victories over Kyren Wilson and Mark Davis for the first time for the main round of the world championship in the Crucible . He won his first match in the arena 10: 6 against Ricky Walden and was only eliminated in the round of 16 against John Higgins .
2015/16 season
At the Ruhr Open 2015 he reached the final of a tournament for world ranking points for the first time, which he won 4-2 against the Chinese Tian Pengfei , so that he could celebrate his first professional title. Rory McLeod also trains the Qatar national snooker team .
Season 2017/18
In the 2017/18 season, he was eliminated from qualifying at the Riga Masters . At the China Championship , McLeod won the qualifying game 5-3 against Chen Zhe , but was eliminated in the first round with 1-5 against Stephen Maguire . At the following Indian Open he won 4-2 in the qualifying round against Ross Muir , in the first round 4-3 against Jackson Page and was only eliminated in the second round with 1: 4 against Anthony McGill . At the World Open he lost 4: 5 to Eden Sharav in qualifying , at the European Masters he was eliminated, also in qualifying, 4: 1 to Martin O'Donnell . At the English Open he was eliminated in the first round 4-0 against Jack Lisowski . Just like at the Indian Open 2017, he won the qualification against Ross Muir at the International Championship , but this time 6: 4. Later he was eliminated in the first round with 1: 6 against Mark King . At the Shanghai Masters 2017 he won 5-4 in qualifying against Billy Joe Castle , but was then eliminated 4-5 in the first round against Stephen Maguire.
