Eden Sharav (born April 30, 1992 in Mishmar Ayalon , Israel ) is a Scottish-Israeli snooker player .

Career

Eden Sharav's mother is Scottish, his father comes from Israel, where he was born. He was three years old when the family relocated to the UK. He grew up in Alloa in the Scottish Central Lowlands. He started playing snooker at the age of 12 and performed well as a teenager. In the 2009/10 season he finished fourth in the ranking of the Scottish Main Tour. In the U-19s he was one of the best young players in Scotland. From 2011 onwards he drew attention to himself beyond his home country. He won the Pontin's Star of the Future youth tournament in the U-20 class against Ross Muir . At the U-21 European Championship he reached the quarter-finals. Then he also took part in six tournaments of the Players Tour Championship 2011/12 and reached the first round at the first tournament in Sheffield with wins over Liang Wenbo , Adam Duffy and Gary Wilson . The next year did not help him, however, at the U-21 European Championship it was again in the quarter-finals and at the PTC tournaments he reached the main tournament four times, but was eliminated each time in round 1.

After a year in which he was almost completely absent, Sharav made a new attempt at a professional career. The Scot, who now trained at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester , took part in the two tournaments of the Q School , where you could qualify for the Snooker Main Tour . But both times he was unlucky, he reached the decider after five wins, but then lost to Tian Pengfei and Michael Leslie . After all, he was allowed to take part in the qualifying rounds for the main tournaments as an amateur in the 2014/15 Main Tour season . At the International Championship , he took his chance and moved into the main round of a professional tournament for the first time after defeating Gerard Greene . But it remained the greatest success of this season.

After the end of the season he went back to the Q School and reached the playoff again in the first tournament . This time he defeated his opponent Adam Duffy and thus received full starting authorization for the main tour of the following two seasons. In his first season in 2015/16 he won early stages at the Australian Open and the Shanghai Masters . In addition, he was only successful in the Players Tour Championship, where he won victories over Jimmy Robertson in Riga and Luca Brecel in Sofia . Otherwise there were mainly defeats at the beginning and he could not establish himself in the top 100 of the world rankings . The following year he qualified for the first time as a professional for the main round with a win over Sean O'Sullivan at the Indian Open . In Hyderabad, he lost just 3: 4 to Anthony Hamilton . At the International Championship , he won the ticket to Asia for the second time with a win over Nigel Bond , but where John Higgins was too difficult an opening opponent. At the Home Nations tournaments Northern Ireland Open and Welsh Open , Oliver Lines was drawn as the first round opponent both times, whom he defeated 4-1 on both occasions. He also did well in the special format of the shoot-out with victories over Gareth Allen and the top 8 player Barry Hawkins . But he had his greatest success at the China Open , where he beat Jamie Jones in qualifying and defeated his compatriot Ross Muir 5-0 in round 1 . With a 10: 5 win over Jamie Cope in the final World Cup , he further improved his season balance. After two years he was only 83rd in the world rankings and missed the direct confirmation of his tour membership, but as seventh in the one-year ranking he got a new start for the next two years.

The season 2017/18 started Sharav with an opening victory in Riga Masters . Then he was allowed to take part in the World Cup : Together with Shachar Ruberg, he formed an Israeli two-man team that fought respectably with victories over Cyprus and India. This was followed by three defeats before he qualified again for the main tournament at the World Open and the European Masters .
