The European Masters 2017 was a snooker tournament of the Main Tour - 2017/18 season , which was held from October 2nd to 8th in the Topevenementenhal De Soeverein in Lommel in Belgium . As early as the 1990s, there were four professional tournaments in Belgium under the name European Open . The previous year saw the debut of the European Masters in Romania. The defending champion was the Englishman Judd Trump . He reached the final again and repeated his previous year's success with a 9: 7 win over Stuart Bingham .
Prize money
Compared to 2016, the prize money increased by £ 26,000 . This increase will only benefit the losers in the first two rounds who get £ 250 and £ 500 more respectively.

Final round
The games in the final round were played in best-of-7 mode up to and including the quarter-finals (4 winning frames). In the semifinals, whoever won 6 frames first, in the finals, whoever won 9 frames first. Unlike in the previous year, but uniformly in all world ranking tournaments this season, 64 players competed in Lommel, last year there were only the last 32.

qualification
The qualifying round was in on 3 and 4 August 2017 Guildhall in the English city of Preston played. Three games, that of the defending champion Judd Trump (1), that of the world champion Mark Selby (64) and that of the only Belgian professional Luca Brecel (55), were played in Belgium at the start of the main tournament. All games were played in best-of-7 mode .
