Niu Zhuang ( Chinese  牛 壮 , Pinyin Niú Zhuàng ; born June 26, 1994 in Fuyang ) is a Chinese snooker player .

Career

Niu Zhuang comes from Fuyang, a metropolis in the east of China. His father introduced him to snooker and after becoming one of the best players in the home province of Anhui , he attended a snooker school in Shanghai from 2008. From 2010 he trained in Beijing. He first drew national attention at the tournament in Yixing as part of the Players Tour Championship 2012/13 . There he defeated two experienced snooker professionals with Mark King and Stuart Bingham and reached the round of 16. At the International Championship he qualified for the wildcard round in the same year . Then he registered at the Q Schoolin order to qualify for the professional tour via the tournaments there , but then could not take part because an entry visa was denied.

In 2013, Niu became the Chinese U21 champion and at the end of the season finished second behind Lu Ning in the junior rankings. He was successful again in the PTC-Asian Tour in 2014/15 : at the Xuzhou Open 2015 he defeated Matthew Selt and Cao Yupeng and again reached a round of 16. He also got a wildcard at all Chinese professional tournaments, but couldn't use any of them for a main round entry. That was also the case in the following season, only at the China Open 2017 he managed a narrow 5-4 victory over Alex Borg and he was in the main round of a full world ranking tournament for the first time. There he had no chance in the 1: 5 against Ricky Walden .

Outside of China he did not appear during this time, but nationally he developed more and more into one of the best non-professionals at domestic tournaments. Due to his placement in the ranking of the Chinese association CBSA, he got the right to start for two years for the Snooker Main Tour in 2017. But he again missed the first qualifying round of the 2017/18 season for the Riga Masters due to visa problems.

At the German Masters 2018 he reached the main round of a ranking tournament again, but was eliminated in the first round against Mark Davis with 2: 5.
