The D88 German Masters 2018 was a snooker tournament of the Snooker Main Tour of the 2017/18 season . For the eighth time in a row, the Tempodrom in Berlin was the venue. The tournament began on January 31st and ended on February 4th, 2018. On September 5th, 2017 World Snooker announced the new sponsor and namesake of the tournament with D88 .
The defending champion was the Englishman Anthony Hamilton , who was eliminated this time in the first round against Jimmy Robertson .
One day before the start of the qualifying round on December 19, 2017, the top favorite Ronnie O'Sullivan , 2012 winner, announced his retirement from the tournament for medical reasons.

There were no changes in the prize money compared to the two previous years.

The main tournament in Berlin began on Wednesday, January 31, with the 32 players who had survived the two qualifying rounds at the end of 2017.

qualification
As in the previous year, the qualification took place in Barnsley in the Metrodome . It was the only tournament of the season with two qualifying rounds. From December 19-22, 2017, the 32 players who competed in Berlin a month and a half later were selected from the field of professionals.
