Chen Zifan ( Chinese  陈 子 凡 , Pinyin Chén Zǐfán ; born September 17, 1995 in Xi'an ) is a Chinese snooker player from Shaanxi .

Career

Chen Zifan began playing snooker at his uncle's billiards club when he was ten. When his great talent showed, he was taken out of regular school in 2006 and received remedial classes. The coach was former professional player Liu Song . In 2013 he had his breakthrough in the Chinese youth sector with first place in the national youth series. The year before, he had already taken part in a Chinese tournament of the Players Tour Championship . At the tournament in Zhangjiagang he made it into round 2. In the 2013/14 season he was in at least the second round of all four tournaments of the Asian Tour, and at the Zhengzhou Open 2013 he even made it to the quarter-finals. Because of his performance, his association gave him a wildcard for the World Open . He won his opening match against Sanderson Lam 5: 3 and was in the main round of a major professional tournament for the first time. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season he repeated this success at the Wuxi Classic by winning a wildcard round against Scott Donaldson . At the Xuzhou Open 2015 he defeated another professional with Ross Muir and reached the second round.

At the end of the following season he tried for the first time to qualify for the professional tour through the Q School , but failed because of Reanne Evans and Tony Drago . At the International Championship 2016 , however, he made the main round for the third time after a wildcard win against Tian Pengfei . In the same year he also took part in the amateur world championship , but retired early against Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon . The second attempt at the Q School he was successful: At the second tournament from May 15 to 20, 2017, he managed direct qualification for the Main Tour and only gave five frames in his six matches. This secured him professional status for two years until 2019.
