The World Open 2017 was a snooker tournament of the main tour - season 2017/18 . They took place for the second time in a row in Yushan in the southeast of the People's Republic of China and were held from September 18 to 24.
The defending champion Allister Carter did not appear this year. The new winner was the Chinese Ding Junhui , who defeated Kyren Wilson 10: 3 in the final.
Prize money
The prize money has been increased by £ 182,000 compared to 2016, bringing it in line with the other two top Chinese tournaments, the China Championship and the International Championship . The winner alone got £ 60,000 more that year, with significant increases up to the round of 16. Only for the losers in the first round did the premium not increase.

Final round
The games of the final round were played in best-of-9 mode up to and including the quarter-finals . In the semifinals, Best of 11 was considered and the final was won by whoever was the first to win more than half of 19 frames (10 winning frames). As of this year, there was no longer a wildcard round, the four players nominated by the Chinese association went straight to the qualifying round.

qualification
The qualifying round was from 6 to 9 August 2017 in the Guildhall in the English city of Preston played. Seven games took place later: World champion Mark Selby and the two top Chinese players Ding Junhui and Liang Wenbo only played their games on September 18 in Yushan, as did the four wildcard players. All games were played in best-of-9 mode .
