The 1990 Grand Prix was a 1990-91 season snooker tournament held at Reading's Hexagon Theater from October 8-21 , 1990 . It was the seventh Grand Prix in the south-east English city.
After two tournament wins in a row, defending champion Steve Davis was eliminated this time in round 1. His conqueror Nigel Bond made it to the final, but he had no chance against Stephen Hendry . The world champion and world number one won 10: 5 and after 1987 he won his second Grand Prix title.
Final round
Unlike in previous years, only 64 players entered the main tournament in Reading . The first two rounds had already taken place the month before, in which the players from 33rd to 128th place in the world rankings played for the 32 free places in the main tournament. The top 32 in the world were set for Reading, and the 32 qualified were drawn.

qualification
The qualification took place one month before the main tournament from September 2nd to 11th in two rounds. The players from places 65 to 128 of the world rankings competed against each other in round 1, the players from places 33 to 64 were seeded for round 2 and met the winners there. There were 32 players left who then hit the top 32 of the ranking in Reading .
