The Regal Scottish Masters 1990 was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 1990/91 season . The invitation tournament was held from September 12th to 16th. After the first eight editions were held in Glasgow , this year they moved to the neighboring town of Motherwell . The local Civic Center remained the venue for the Scottish Masters until 2000.
For the second time in a row and for the second time since the tournament was re-launched in 1989, the final was Stephen Hendry versus Terry Griffiths . The Scottish world champion and world number one won 10: 6. This made him the third player to defend his Scottish Masters title. For Griffiths from Welsh, however, it was the third consecutive defeat in the final in the tournament he never won.

final
At the end of last season, Stephen Hendry had won his first world title and taken the lead in the world rankings . He had won 17 professional tournaments by then. Terry Griffiths had already won 18 titles, but was already approaching the end of his career, which began in 1979 with a world title . Last year Hendry had clearly won the duel between young and old by 10: 1.
This time the tournament was more balanced. Griffiths won the first frame, Hendry leveled. After that, the Scot took the lead several times, but the Welshman immediately created a draw again. This continued until the 5: 4 for Hendry at the end of the session. In the evening the favorite won the first frame. Griffiths struggled to keep up and Hendry increased to 8-5 and 9-6. With a century break of 138 points, he finally closed the final to a 10: 6 victory. He was the third player to defend his title after Cliff Thorburn and Steve Davis , who had even won three times in a row. For Terry Griffiths it was the last professional final of his career.
