final
Before the season, Stephen Hendry had replaced long-time number 1 Steve Davis at the top of the world rankings . At the UK Championship , the two met in the final and Hendry had won in the decision-making frame. For the course of this finale, the first frame was already pointing the way. Hendry managed a high 63-point break, but Davis held back with 50 points and in the end stole the frame with Black. On the second frame he did better than Hendry and made him safe with a break of 86 points. The Scot now only got a few points and Davis also decided the last two frames and thus the match with 4-0 clearly for himself.
