World Masters (Snooker)
The World Masters (also Mita / Sky World Masters ) was a professional snooker tournament that was held only once in January 1991. It was organized by Barry Hearn at the National Exhibition Center in Birmingham .
A total of one million pounds were distributed at the invitation tournament, which was the highest prize money in a snooker tournament at the time. The men's winner received a record £ 200,000, and the same year the World Snooker Championship winner received £ 135,000.
In addition, similar to tennis Grand Slam tournaments , there were also the formats women, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles and juniors (U16). However, no sponsors were found for another edition.
In the first round, James Wattana from Thailand played the ninth official maximum break in snooker history.
