Tournament course

The tournament took place at a time when the amusement park operator Pontins was holding various tournaments in its parks, primarily in the Welsh seaside resort of Prestatyn , for example the Pontins Professional or the Pontins Spring Open . That tournament has now been held at the Pontins Brean Sands Holiday Park at Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset on the Arts of the Bristol Channel . A total of six players took part in the tournament, which was only played once, and were divided into two groups of three for the first round. In these they played a simple round-robin tournament , which resulted in a final table whose two best-placed players advanced to the semifinals. From this point on, the winner was played in the knockout system . The group games each ran over nine frames, the semi-finals, on the other hand, were played in the best of 9 frames and the final in the best of 17 frames .

final

The Englishman Tony Meo had survived the group phase relatively narrowly, but without defeat, and in the semifinals he wrestled the second placed in the other group, John Spencer , 5-4. Meo's main competitor in the group stage was South African Silvino Francisco , who secured second place after losing 4-5 to Meo and beating Jimmy White 5-4. However, this meant that he should meet John Virgo in the semifinals , who had clearly won the second group and had only given three frames. But Francisco won 5-0 and now met his group opponent White in the final.

White got off to a better start and took a 3-0 lead before his opponent equalized. White then took the lead again, but Francisco turned the game around to 4: 5 and was able to take the lead two more times after White had equalized each time. At 6: 7 White managed to equalize again and now it was he who took the lead. With an 83: 0 in the 16th frame, he finally secured the 9: 7 overall victory.
