Tournament course

A total of eight players took part in the tournament: with Steve Davis , Steve James , Peter Ebdon and Willie Thorne four good professional players, with Geet Sethi and Michael Ferreira two Indian players who were particularly successful in English Billiards , and with Karen Corr and Stacey Hillyard two of the leading snooker players of the time. The eight players were initially divided into two groups of four, in which a simple round- robin tournament was played. At the end, a final table was drawn up based on the frames won or lost, and the first-placed winner advanced to the final. In this the tournament winner was then decided. While the group games went over five frames each, the final was played in the best of 17 frames mode .

Endgame

Englishman Steve Davis had to hand over the role of dominant player to Stephen Hendry , who did not participate here, at the beginning of the decade , but he was still represented in the top of the world. He had won his group without any major problems when he only had to submit two frames. His opponent was Steve James , who lost two frames per game alone and won the group just ahead of Willie Thorne . No exact frame results are known from the final. All in all, Davis won 9: 6 and won the tournament. According to the CueTracker database , he played four 100 breaks.
