The International Open was a professional snooker tournament . It was played from 1981 to 1997 and then replaced by the Scottish Open .
From 1982 the tournament had the status of a world ranking tournament of the Snooker Main Tour . There have been frequent sponsor changes in its history, so in one year it was also called the Goya Matchroom Trophy .
The tournament did not take place in the 1990/91 and 1991/92 seasons. Venues before the break were Derby , Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Stoke-on-Trent . From the 1992/93 season it was back on the tour calendar. Now it was first played for one year in Plymouth , then two years in Bournemouth , one year in Swindon and finally in Aberdeen , before it was permanently moved to Scotland from the 1997/98 season and continued as the Scottish Open.
