The Benson & Hedges Championship (converted to Masters Qualifying Event after 2002 ) was a professional snooker tournament that was held from 1990 to 2009. For the winner there was always a starting place for the Masters , which was also sponsored by Benson & Hedges at the time . In 1992 it had the status of a minor tournament once. This means that a tenth of the points for the snooker world ranking of a regular ranking tournament could be achieved.
The ban on tobacco advertising turned it into a regular qualifying tournament from 2003, for which there was no longer any prize money.
The venues of the Benson & Hedges Championship were from 1990 to 1993 Glasgow , from 1994 to 1996 Edinburgh , from 1997 to 2000 Malvern and 2002 and 2003 Mansfield . After being converted to a normal qualifying tournament, it took place in Prestatyn and Sheffield , with an interruption in 2004 during which there was no tournament.
