The Indian Open are a professional snooker tournament with world ranking tournament status .

history

The tournament was launched in 2013. It is the first world ranking tournament to be held in India .

The total prize money was at first held in the capital New Delhi 300,000 pounds , the winner got them 50,000 pounds.

The tournament had to keep fighting for the continued existence and a suitable venue. The original contract was for three events. In the second year, the second largest Indian city Mumbai was the venue, but the date was moved from the first to the second half of the season. The planned tournament was canceled in the 2015/16 season and was postponed to the following season. Nevertheless, the tournament continued beyond that. In the 2018/19 season, after flooding on the southwest coast, the event had to be postponed from September to the following spring. In the following year the search for a venue failed again and the announced tournament was canceled for the second time.

While the prize money on the professional tour continued to rise, especially through the Chinese tournaments, the prizes at the Indian Open remained largely constant. In particular, the prize money for the win was unchanged at £ 50,000 through 2019. This made it one of the lowest endowed tournaments on the Main Tour.
