The Dubai Classic , after the main sponsor also the Dubai Duty Free Classic , was a professional snooker tournament .
It was held for the first time in 1988 (at that time under the name Dubai Masters ) and in 1989 it achieved the status of a ranking tournament on the Snooker Main Tour . It was the first professional snooker tournament to be held in the Middle East. From the 1995/96 season it was relocated to Thailand for two years and renamed Singha Thailand Classic or Suntory Asian Classic . After the 1996/97 season , the tournament was finally discontinued.
In the 2008/09 season there was a new tournament in the Middle East, the Bahrain Championship .
