In the 1995/1996 snooker season , 16 professional snooker tournaments were held.

As in previous years in Scotland, the season began on September 19, 1995. Then it went to Asia. The Dubai Classic had moved to Thailand so that there were now two world rankings tournaments in Bangkok. With the newly introduced German Open, attempts were made to establish a second European ranking tournament outside of the British Isles.

Thus there were now ten tournaments for the calculation of the snooker world rankings , which was headed by Stephen Hendry for the sixth year in a row . For the fifth time in a row and for the sixth time overall, the Scot also won the world championship title, which was awarded at the end of the season in the World Cup final on May 5, 1996. In addition to Hendry, who won 5 of the 16 titles of the season, John Higgins was the most successful player of the season with two titles and another four finals. As a result, he was able to advance to number 2 in the world rankings for the first time.
