final
After the two finalists of the previous year had already been eliminated in the round of 16, Ronnie O'Sullivan and John Higgins, two representatives of the so-called Golden Generation, had reached the final.
O'Sullivan took a 2-0 lead at the start of the match, but then his Scottish rival turned the match around and took the lead 2-4 himself. Again O'Sullivan turned the match around and took a 5: 4 lead, before expanding it to 7: 5 after an equalizer from Higgins. Higgins came close to him at 7: 6, but O'Sullivan won the following two frames to 9: 6 final victory.
