final

The final of the first edition of the tournament turned into a kind of generational duel. Stephen Hendry from Scotland was the leading player in the 1990s and had won four world championships by the time of the final. On his way to the final with Joe Swail , Ronnie O'Sullivan and Alan McManus, he had defeated three of the players who were professionals even after Hendry's career ended in 2012 and had also been among the world's best for years. One of them, O'Sullivan, even became Hendry's successor in terms of dominance. In the final, Hendry met Dennis Taylor , a player who had peaked in the late 1970s and 1980s and was world champion ten years ago. On his way to the final, he had defeated three players, Jimmy White , Willie Thorne and Terry Griffiths , who celebrated success in the 1980s and for the most part belonged to the extended world elite - with the exception of number four in the world rankings, Jimmy White .

The final became a straightforward affair: Hendry dominated the game and only gave a single frame to Taylor after winning six frames. The match ended with a clear 9: 1 victory for the Scotsman, who made Taylor's last participation in the final at a professional tournament a debacle for him.
