The Dubai Duty Free Classic 1994 was a snooker tournament of the 1994/95 season that was held from September 30th to October 7th at the Al Nasr Sports Club in Dubai . For the 6th and last time, the only ranking tournament on the Arabian Peninsula took place.

Defending champion Stephen Hendry made it to the semi-finals again, but lost there against his Scottish compatriot Alan McManus . In the final he met the Englishman Peter Ebdon and defeated him 9: 6.

The following year, the first ranked tournament of the season was replaced by the Thailand Classic , renamed the Asian Classic the following year . Thus the tournament in the Middle East was given up in favor of a second tournament in Southeast Asia. After two years, this place in the tournament calendar was also given up.

Prize money / ranking points

Again, the prize money hardly changed compared to the previous year, but the number of those who received a cash prize was again reduced. The last 128 came away empty-handed, only from the round of the last 96 there was money. The money saved in this way was distributed over the next two rounds, from the round of the last 48 onwards nothing changed. The points for the world rankings went in the other direction after the increase from last time. The winner got 400, the loser even 900 points less. The quarter-finalists even lost 1280 points and the number of points in the lower ranks was almost halved.

As in the previous year, the main tournament was limited to 32 participants. The top 16 in the world rankings were set. The remaining participants played 8 qualifying rounds until 16 other main round players were determined. They were drawn to the top 16. Otherwise the tournament mode remained unchanged.

final

Alan McManus had his breakthrough in the preseason with winning the Masters and three other finals. He was in the final of a ranking tournament for the fourth time, but he had not yet won. Peter Ebdon had won his first rankings title at the Grand Prix last year , but the Dubai Classic was only his second professional final. In the previous three encounters between the two players, the Scot had won twice. McManus got off to a successful start and won the first three frames of the final before Ebdon was able to shorten it to 1: 3 with a fast century before the break . He took the momentum with him and leveled off to 4: 4 by the end of the session. In the evening McManus took the lead twice, but the English countered immediately afterwards and equalized again. When McManus took the lead 7: 6, there was no equalizer. Rather, the Scot got three frames in a row and won the match 9: 6 and thus his first ranked title. In 6 editions of the Dubai Classic he was only the third winner after his compatriot Stephen Hendry had won three times and John Parrott twice.

Century breaks

13 players achieved 16 breaks of at least 100 points in the course of the tournament, significantly fewer than in the previous year. There were only three in the main tournament, in the semifinals Peter Ebdon achieved the highest of them with 130 points. That was enough to get an extra £ 2,000 . John Higgins' 144 break in the final qualifying round received £ 1,000 as a bonus.
