1996

The Humo European Open 1994 was a snooker tournament of the 1994/95 season that was held from December 11th to 17th at the Het Rool Stadium . The move to the end of the calendar year from the previous year was thus retained. For the third time in a row, the tournament took place in Antwerp - more often than in any other city - but it was the third venue within the northern Belgian metropolis. The Belgian magazine Humo remained a sponsor of the event for the third time.

In the semifinals, the previous year's final between Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan was repeated . Hendry won again and in the final he was able to defend his title with a 9-3 win over John Parrott . Hendry and Parrott were the only ones to win the tournament twice.

Prize money / world ranking points

Just over £ 20,000 more was given out this year than last year. The winner received £ 5,000 and the loser £ 3,000 more. The premiums for further placements rose accordingly. However, the £ 150 bonus for the second qualifying round was canceled.

The games of the wildcard round took place at the start of the tournament on March 10th. Game mode for the four games was Best of 9 .

final

While Stephen Hendry was at the height of his career and was the undisputed number 1, John Parrott had dropped from second to fifth last season. After all, he had won the Malta Grand Prix two weeks earlier . Hendry came to Antwerp not only as the defending champion, but also as the winner of the last world ranking tournament, the UK Championship , and was the favorite. He also took the lead 2-0 with two high breaks and went 3-1 into the first break. The preliminary decision was made in the second half of the afternoon session, it went 4-0 to the Scotsman, who continued to give the opponent little chance with high breaks. Two Centurys , including a new highest tournament break of 136 points, and three more breaks of more than 50 points made the game a one-sided affair. Parrott countered the 1: 7 deficit with an energetic start in the evening. With two high breaks he shortened to 3: 7. But then Hendry managed a third century and with a 92-point break at the end he completed the 9: 3 victory. In 1990 Parrott had defended his title from the previous year against Hendry, this time Hendry did it the other way round and won the second title at this tournament like his opponent.
