The German Open 1995 was a snooker tournament that was held from December 3rd to 10th in the exhibition halls in Frankfurt am Main . It was the first world ranking tournament on German soil and was part of the 1995/96 snooker season . Tournament winner was the Scot John Higgins , who won 9: 3 against the Irish Ken Doherty .

Wildcard round

The first edition of the German tournament featured a unique wildcard round, in which four nominated players played against four qualifiers from Germany and Belgium for entry into the main tournament. The game mode was best-of-9 .

This season, John Higgins had already lost two finals, and Doherty was in the final for the first time this year. The Irishman was able to keep up until the 3: 3, then Higgins played a 5: 3 lead until the break. In the evening session he didn't give Doherty a chance, he won four frames in a row and scored the highest break of the tournament with 139 points. It was Higgins' fifth Main Tour title in his fourth year as a professional.
