The Betfair German Masters 2013 was a snooker tournament that was held from January 30th to February 3rd, 2013 in the Tempodrom in Berlin .
Last year's title holder was the Englishman Ronnie O'Sullivan , who this year ended the Main Tour season prematurely for personal reasons and therefore did not start.
Unlike last year, this time the top 16 in the world rankings were not automatically placed for the final round. Instead, all of the top 32 players had to face the first-round winners in the second qualifying round. There was also no wildcard round this time. In order to still offer attractive games in the Tempodrom before the main tournament, only the first round and part of the second round were played in Sheffield , ten qualifying games took place in Berlin.
In the final, Allister Carter beat Marco Fu 9: 6 . For both of them it was their greatest success at the German Masters: in the previous year, Carter was eliminated in the first round; Fu, who had not qualified for the main tournament in the previous year, had advanced to the semifinals in the year before last. For Allister Carter it was the third title in a world ranking tournament.

Final round
The biggest surprise of the opening round was the end of the top seeded young star Judd Trump . With Mark Williams , Stephen Maguire and Stuart Bingham, three other top ten players were eliminated against lower ranked players. Kurt Maflin , who started for Norway, was number 64 and was the worst-placed world ranking player in the second round. There he was defeated by Michael Holt . Number 55, Peter Lines , who had defeated John Higgins in the preliminary round , also made it to the round of 16 and lost to Marco Fu there . The Scottish amateur Fraser Patrick, who was the biggest surprise among the top 32, then failed immediately to Allister Carter . The Englishman then defeated Trump conquerors Anthony Hamilton and Michael Holt before eliminating the last remaining top ten player in the semifinals with Neil Robertson . His final opponent Marco Fu had prevailed against Barry Hawkins , who for his part had previously taken the world number one and winner of the two previous tournaments ( UK Championship and Masters ) Mark Selby from the tournament.

final
The final started with a 52-minute frame, which was characterized by safety duels and which Marco Fu ultimately won. In the fourth frame, at 2: 1 for Fu, the Chinese managed the first century break of the evening, where he was even on course for a maximum break before he missed the penultimate red and his break ended with 104 points. After the midsession interval, Allister Carter had the better start and equalized to 3: 3. Fu responded with an 83 break in frame seven. The last frame of the afternoon session was marked by a few mistakes and lack of concentration, in the end Fu managed to work out a 5: 3 lead.
In the evening session, Carter started furiously with two century breaks in a row and took the first three frames of the evening without Marco Fu being able to punch a single ball. Fu only managed to gain one frame to equalize 6: 6, after the mid-session interval the Englishman used his chances better than Fu and won the final 9: 6. For Carter it was the third victory in a ranking tournament. Even for Marco Fu it was a great success despite the defeat in the final. Most recently, at the end of 2008, he was in the final of a major ranking tournament. He also had the best record of all participants with six Centuries in five rounds.
