Tournament course
Round 1
Defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan , who had taken a break from professional snooker for most of the season, started with a 10-4 win over Marcus Campbell . For some fellow favorites, however, it was already over in round one: With Neil Robertson , the 2010 World Champion failed against Robert Milkins , and Mark Allen had to admit defeat to Mark King . The four-time world champion John Higgins also missed the jump to the last sixteen. The clearest win in the first round was achieved by Ricky Walden , who only lost one frame against Michael Holt . Of the six Crucible -Debütanten two the second round achieved: Michael White defeated his compatriot, the two-time world champion Mark Williams , 10: 6, and the Thais Dechawat Poomjaeng , who took the audience through his emotional way of playing for himself, defeated Stephen Maguire with 10: 9.
Round of 16
Michael White and Dechawat Poomjaeng met in the round of 16, with the Welshman clearly dominating the game and winning 13: 3. In a duel between two former world champions, Shaun Murphy defeated Graeme Dott from Scotland with 13:11. In a re-edition of the finals of 2008 and 2012 , Ronnie O'Sullivan and Allister Carter met in the round of 16 this time. The defending champion also dominated the game this time and prevailed 13: 8. With the world number one Mark Selby , the favorite was eliminated from the tournament; the winner of the UK Championship 2012 and the Masters 2013 was defeated by Barry Hawkins 10:13 am and missed the chance to win all three tournaments of the Triple Crown in one season.
Quarter finals
The quarter-final game between Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy was only decided in the last of the 25 frames. After Trump was already 3: 8 frames behind, he won the decisive frame, which lasted 53 minutes. O'Sullivan had little trouble with his quarter-final opponent Stuart Bingham , he defeated him 13: 4 after an intermediate result of 12: 1. Michael White's successful World Cup debut ended in the quarterfinals, in which he lost to Ricky Walden. And with Barry Hawkins' victory over Ding Junhui , the last non-British player was eliminated from the tournament.
Semifinals
In the first semi-final there was a duel between Ronnie O'Sullivan and Judd Trump, the 2011 World Cup finalist . The game was evenly balanced for the last time at 6: 6, then O'Sullivan won three frames in a row. He extended this lead and started the last session with a 14:10. In the end he defeated Trump with 17:11; thus he was the first defending champion since Ken Doherty 1998, who reached the final again. In the 23rd frame, O'Sullivan was cautioned by referee Michaela Tabb for an obscene gesture.
In the second semi-final, Ricky Walden had the better start against Barry Hawkins. In the first session he took a 6-2 lead after two century breaks and two more breaks of over 50 points. At 12: 8 for Walden, Hawkins started a series of eight frame gains; so he turned the game and finally won it with 17:14. While he failed to break more than 50 points in the first two sessions, he scored seven of them in the last two, including two Centuries.
final
In the 7th frame of the 2nd session O'Sullivan played his 128th Century Break at the Crucible Theater with 103 points . He broke Stephen Hendry's previous record with 127 Centuries. O'Sullivan followed up with three more Centuries of 106, 133 and 124 points; this is the new record number of 131. For Barry Hawkins it was the first World Cup final and only the second in a ranking tournament. In the following interview, O'Sullivan Hawkins attested to extraordinary achievements and emphasized that no other opponent had been so difficult to shake off during the course of the tournament. The question of whether this was his last World Cup participation was left open by O'Sullivan.
