The 1957 World Snooker Championship (officially: Professional Matchplay Championship 1957 ) was the sixth edition of the Professional Matchplay Championship . It took place in Jersey . The first world champion was the Englishman John Pulman , who defeated the Northern Irishman Jackie Rea with 39:34 in the final. Defending champion Fred Davis , who Pulman lost in the final in 1955 and 1956 , did not take part.
