The 1987 World Snooker Championship took place from April 18 to May 4, 1987 at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield .

In the final there was a new edition of the final of the previous year . However , this time Steve Davis won the game against Joe Johnson and won his fourth world title.

The six-time world champion Ray Reardon made his last appearance at a world championship final, while the later seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry made it to the quarter-finals for the first time and is the youngest quarter-finalist in World Cup history at 18 years and 108 days.

In the very first frame Davis scored the highest break of the tournament with a 127. After Day 1 Davis was just 9: 7 ahead and was able to extend this lead to 14:10 in the third session. Johnson came up to 13:14 in the last session, but Davis then got three frames in a row. When the score was 17:14, Davis ended the game with a 78 break to make the final score 18:14.
