final

The Englishman Willie Thorne was in one of the best phases of his career at the time of the tournament and after a white wash over the Canadian ex-world champion Cliff Thorburn with a 5-2 win over the world leader, the three-time world champion Steve Davis , made it to the finals. In this he met the Northern Irishman Dennis Taylor , who had become world champion in 1985 against Steve Davis and had only defeated Jimmy White 3-1 during the tournament and defending champion Terry Griffiths from Wales 5-4 in the semifinals .

But the final itself became a clear affair: Even if it was 2: 2 after a contested start of the game after four frames, Thorne was subsequently able to replace himself with a series of won frames, so that Taylor also won Thorne 8: 3 after another frame -Could no longer prevent victory.

1According to the frame results used here based on the tournament entry on CueTracker, the game would have ended 9: 2. However, since a final score of 8: 3 is consistently reported, it can be assumed that in the results of CueTracker a frame actually won by Taylor is incorrectly rated for Thorne.
