The Toohey's Brewery Australian Professional Championship 1986 was a professional snooker tournament with no impact on the world rankings , which was considered the national professional championship of Australia. The tournament was played from the beginning of August until the 22nd day of the same month in 1986 in the television studios of WIN4 in Wooloongong , a district of Sydney , Australia . The first winner was Warren King , who defeated defending champion John Campbell 10: 3 in the final. King had also previously played the only Century Break with a 111 break and thus the highest break of the tournament.

Depending on the information, the tournament had either Toohey's Brewery as sponsor or no sponsor. Either way, the prize money fell by about a quarter compared to last year to 12,268 pounds sterling , of which a good quarter went to the winner.

Tournament course

Once again, a total of fifteen players took part in the tournament, this time divided into twelve professional and three amateur players. Six players started the tournament in a first round, with the three winners of the games advancing to the second round, with which five other players started the tournament. The four winners of the second round games finally met one of the other professional players in the quarter-finals, so that from this round the tournament was played in the knockout system . Up to and including the quarter-finals, the game was played in the best of 11 frames mode , followed by the best of 15 frames in the semi-finals and best of 19 frames in the final.

final

Warren King had already reached the final in 1984 and lost to Eddie Charlton at the time. This year he started the tournament with a 6-3 win over Lou Condo , before his 8-6 win over Eddie Charlton on the one hand secured his place in the finals and on the other hand ensured that Charlton for the first time has not been in either the final or the top two places since the tournament was first played in 1963 . King now met defending champion John Campbell in the final , who had previously defeated Glen Wilkinson 6-1 and Robby Foldvari 8-3.

In doing so, the final became a clear affair. All of the first six frames went to King before Campbell was able to win a frame for the first time, but then still had to let King pull on an 8-1 lead. Campbell was able to win two of the next three frames, before his opponent won the next thirteenth frame with a score of 9: 3 with 55:46 and thus became the winner of the Australian Professional Championship for the first time with a 10: 3 victory.
