The 1986 Carlsberg Challenge was a professional snooker invitation tournament for the 1986/87 season . The tournament was from 15 to 17 September 1985 in the RTÉ Studios in Ireland Dublin discharged. The winner was the Northern Irishman Dennis Taylor , who defeated the Englishman Jimmy White 8: 3 in the final. Taylor also played the tournament's highest break with a 138 break.

Prize money

The televised tournament was sponsored by the Carlsberg Brewery , which paid out a total of £ 31,000 , of which just under two-fifths went to the winner.

The Northern Irishman and world champion of the previous year Dennis Taylor had reached the final at his first tournament participation and met with the Englishman Jimmy White on the winner of the previous two editions. Taylor had defeated the reigning world champion Joe Johnson in the semifinals , while White had reached the final with a victory over last year's finalist Alex Higgins .

After an initial 1: 1, Taylor took a 5: 1 lead and was able to defend it 6: 2. Then White won another frame, but Taylor won the next two frames with two +50 breaks and one 138 break and thus won the tournament.
