The Scottish Masters 1986 was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 1986/87 season . The invitation tournament was held from September 17th to 20th. For the third time, the Hospitality Inn in Glasgow was the venue.
Defending champion Cliff Thorburn reached the final again this year. This time he met Alex Higgins , whom he only defeated 9: 8 in the decisive frame.
Prize money
There was £ 9,000 more to be won that year than in 1985. The money was distributed proportionally, increasing the prizes between £ 750 and £ 2,500.

Only 6 players from the top 9 of the world rankings were present, including the number 1 Steve Davis , the three-time winner of the tournament. The Englishman John Parrott and the 17-year-old Scottish junior player Stephen Hendry got the two free places. In three elimination rounds, the 8 participants played for the tournament victory.
