final
For Doug Mountjoy it was the sixth finals in a row, and he had won the tournament three times. In the final, he met Steve Newbury , a player who had never reached a professional final before.
As expected, Mountjoy initially dominated the match, taking a 6-1 lead and a 7-2 lead before Newbury started to catch up and came up to 7-6. Mountjoy won the next frame, but Newbury managed to restore the old gap. However, Mountjoy was able to prevent the decider and won the next frame with 76:33, so that he won the match with 9: 7 and thus his fourth tournament victory, making him the sole record winner of the tournament.
The entire final was marked by high breaks, so there were a total of eleven breaks of over fifty points. In addition, the only two Century Breaks of the tournament were played in the final by Doug Mountjoy , which was a 103 and a 108 break.
