The Welsh Professional Championship was a professional snooker tournament to determine the Welsh professional champion that was part of the professional tour in 1977 and between 1980 and 1991 .

history

The competition was held for the first time in 1922, when JS Nicholls won against W. Davies. In 1977 the tournament was revived and took place for the only time in Caerphilly . After it was discontinued, five editions followed in Ebbw Vale between 1980 and 1984 , before the tournament took place in Abertillery along with the start of funding by the WPBSA for 1985 and 1986 . In 1987, the tournament found a new home at the Newport Center in Newport , where it remained until the end of 1991, even though funding from the WPBSA was ended in 1989. In 1991 the sponsor switched to the Welsh Open and the Welsh Professional Championship was discontinued.

During the tournament's history, the tournament had seven sponsors and four venues, four winners and a total of eight finalists.
