The Senator Windows Welsh Professional Championship 1989 was a professional snooker tournament of the 1988/89 season without affecting the world rankings and determining the Welsh professional champions. The tournament was in January 1989. As in previous years, in Newport Center of Wales Newport discharged. The winner was the five-time title holder Doug Mountjoy , who defeated defending champion Terry Griffiths 9: 6 in the final . Mountjoy also played the tournament's highest break with a 124 break.
Prize money
As in the previous year, the tournament was sponsored by Senator Windows . The prize money increased by £ 3,500 to £ 26,000, of which about two-fifths went to the winner. In addition, for the first time the losers of the first round players received - albeit small - prize money.

For Doug Mountjoy it was already the ninth final at the Welsh Professional Championship, with four wins he was also the record winner of the tournament. In the final, he met the three-time winner and, among others, last year's winner Terry Griffiths .
Griffiths dominated the start of the match and took the lead 3-0 and 5-1 before Mountjoy caught up to 4-5. After Griffiths had extended his lead to 4-6, Mountjoy first equalized, then took the lead and finally won his last tournament title with 9: 6.
