It took place during the 1988/89 season in February 1989 at the Redwood Lodge Hotel and Country Club in Bristol . The winner was Mike Hallett , who defeated John Parrott 9: 7 in the final. Parrott played the tournament's highest break with a 130 break.

Mike Hallett got off to a better start against John Parrott and took a 3-1 lead. Parrott, who was to be in the World Cup final almost three months later, was able to catch up to 2: 3, but Hallett took the lead 6: 2. Parrott was able to get close to him within two frames, Hallett increased in return to 7: 4. But Parrott didn't give up and thanks to a Century and two other breaks he equalized with over 50 points. Hallett responded with a 107 break and won the 16th frame 66:36 to win the final edition of the competition.
