The WPBSA Non-Ranking 1988 - Event 3 was a professional non-ranking snooker tournament for the 1988/89 season . It was held in December 1988 at the Excelsior Club in the English city of Leeds . The winner in an all-English final was David Taylor , who won his only professional tournament with a 9-1 win over Steve Meakin .
Prize money
Despite a new participant record prize money fell compared to the previous two tournaments at 575 pounds to a total of 24 425 £, with around one fifth was accounted for by the winner.

Tournament course
A total of 75 players took part in the tournament, who joined the tournament according to their world ranking position. All games were played in the best of 9 frames mode , with the exception of the final, which was played in the best of 17 frames mode.
Round 1
In the first round, ten players in world number 114 or lower competed against twelve players in 132nd place, which was shared several times. Each player on an undivided world rankings played - if he had not given up without a fight - against a player who was placed in 132nd place; in addition, there was a party between two players placed in 132nd place.

Further course of the tournament
In addition to the sixteen winners of the previous round, sixteen other players were added to world number 57 or lower. The players who emerged from this round met in the round of the last 32 on the last 16 players, who completed the field of participants.
As in the first event, the best-placed player was South African Peter Francisco in 14th place in the world list. The winner David Taylor was in second place in 28th place, closely followed by Steve Longworth in 30th place.
