Tournament course
After there was one round of the last 48 with a maximum of two previous rounds in each of the three previous editions, this time only a few players competed in a first preceding round before the rest of the field started in the round of the last 64. All games up to and including the semi-finals were played in the best of 9 frames mode , only the final was played in a different mode with the best of 15 frames mode.
First round
Due to the slight decrease in the number of participants and the changes in the tournament mode, only eight players competed in the first round, with one of the opponents not playing in three games and thus the other getting through without a fight.

final
The Australian Robby Foldvari , born in 1960, had been a professional player since 1984 and had only reached a professional final at the Australian professional championship , so this was his second place in the final. He met the six-year-old Welshman Darren Morgan , who had been a professional player since 1988 and was in the final several times and had won a tournament .
Morgan won the first frame with a break of 50, but Foldvari equalized with a break of 98. From that point on, Foldvari managed not to drop a frame and win the game 8-1. It remained the only professional title for Foldvari.
