final

John Campbell, who won in 1985 the tournament was in the quarter-finals with a white-wash over Ian Anderson started the tournament before settling in the semifinals on a tight 8: 6 victory over local favorite Eddie Charlton secured the finals in where he stepped on Robby Foldvari , who so far has had little success in snooker, but had already won the English Billiards World Championship . Foldvari had also only started the tournament in the quarter-finals, where he narrowly defeated Vladimir Potazsnyk 5-3 , before he reached the final with an 8-5 win over Warren King .

The final itself was a close game. After Campbell took a 2-0 lead, Foldvari equalized. As a result, a constant back and forth developed in which neither player could achieve a significant advantage. Only when the score was 7: 7 Campbell was able to win the following two frames with 63:13 and 76:55 and thus also the game and the tournament.
