Life

He was the son of the timber merchant and sawmill owner Wilhelm Ehrt and his wife Else. After attending school, he completed an apprenticeship as an electrician. His preference for cross-country skiing was recognized and promoted early on. After he was drafted for the Second World War and was taken prisoner by the Americans towards the end of the war, he began to rebuild winter sports in Elbingerode in the Harz Mountains after his release in 1945 . He belonged to the gymnastics and sports club Elbingerode and in 1950 became a founding member of the company sports association (BSG) "Glück auf", which had a winter sports section that temporarily had over 100 members.

In 1952 and 1954 Wilhelm Ehrt took part in the GDR championships in skiing, where he took second place in cross-country skiing. In the ski marathon he was GDR champion. In 1960, Wilhelm Ehrt ended his career and from then on worked alongside his job at the Buna lime works in Rübeland as a trainer for cross-country skiing in children's and youth sports. In 1985 he finally retired.
