The New Zealand Masters 1989 was a snooker tournament belonging to the 1989/90 snooker season . The last edition of the New Zealand Masters was held from 3 to 6 August 1989 in the Parliament of New Zealand .

In the final, the Englishman Willie Thorne defeated his compatriot Joe Johnson . Thorne played the tournament's highest break in the semi-finals.

As in the previous edition, a game for third place was played. Last year's fourth Tony Knowles defeated Stephen Hendry .

Prize money

The tournament was sponsored by Lions Brown . Again there was no premium for the highest break.
