Round of 48 to final
final
For Dean Reynolds it was the first professional final, even if he had previously reached the semi-finals of the Classic 1987 , among other things . In this tournament he had easily defeated Dave Gilbert and John Parrott before he defeated the winner of the two previous editions, Tony Meo , 6-4 in the quarterfinals . In the semifinals he finally won 9: 8 against ex-world champion Joe Johnson , so that he had reached the final. In this he met Neal Foulds , who had moved into the semi-finals with wins over Gary Wilkinson , Danny Fowler and Willie Thorne and had defeated Barry West 9: 6 there.
Foulds got off to a better start, taking a 2-0 lead, but Reynolds turned the game in his favor and took a 4-2 lead himself. As a result, Foulds equalized, but Reynolds restored the old gap and now led 6: 4. The following frame results are not recorded. It is known, however, that one of the following four frames went to Foulds and three to Reynolds, so that he won the game with 9: 5 and thus his only professional title.
