final

In a purely Northern Irish final, Jack McLaughlin , who had reached his first professional final with a victory in the decider and two more wins, met defending champion Dennis Taylor , who was six-time champion for the quarter-finals and had made it to the final for the eighth time in a row .

Although the first frame went to Taylor, his opponent first took the lead 3-1 and then 4-2. After Taylor cut to 4: 3, McLaughlin extended his lead to 7: 3 before Taylor was able to reduce it to 7: 4 with a 63 break. But McLaughlin won the next two frames to win the match and tournament.
