The Scottish Masters 1987 was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 1987/88 season . The invitation tournament was held from September 17th to 20th at the Hospitality Inn in Glasgow .
The seventh edition of the tournament marked the end of the sponsorship of whiskey maker Langs Supreme. It then passed a whole year without a tournament until a new supporter could be won with the Imperial Tobacco Group and the tournament returned as the Regal Scottish Masters in 1989 .
Defending champion Cliff Thorburn missed drawing level with predecessor Steve Davis with a third straight win . In the semifinals he lost to Joe Johnson . The 1986 world champion then won the final against Terry Griffiths 9: 7 and thus won his second professional title.
Prize money
At the end of his engagement, the sponsor increased the prize money by another £ 12,000 . The premiums for the first 4 rose by £ 3,000 and £ 2,000, respectively, and the losers in the first round received an additional £ 625.
