The 1986 World Snooker Championship took place from April 19 to May 5, 1986 at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield .
World champion was surprisingly Joe Johnson , who came out of round one for the first time in his career in a world championship finals. In the final he defeated Steve Davis , the world champion of 1983 and 1984 , who was also in the final the previous year . The defending champion Dennis Taylor , however, was eliminated in the first round.
The later seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry made his debut in 1986 and also held the record as the youngest player in a World Cup finals until 2012.
