The 1956 World Snooker Championship (officially: Professional Matchplay Championship 1956) was the fifth edition of the Professional Matchplay Championship . It took place at Blackpool Tower Circus in Blackpool . Englishman Fred Davis became world champion for the fifth time in a row , beating his compatriot John Pulman 38:35 in the final. It was Davis' eighth and final world title.
