The 1949 World Snooker Championship was a tournament which, for the third and final time, was played at Leicester Square Hall in London , England .
The final contested, also for the third time, the Scot Walter Donaldson and the Englishman Fred Davis . As in the previous year, Davis prevailed with an 80:65 victory and secured his second of eight world titles. After his older brother Joe , he was the second player to defend his first title.
Donaldson scored the highest break with 115 points.
The Canadian Conrad Stanbury made it back into the main round after 1939. He was eliminated from the eventual finalist Walter Donaldson with 13:58.
The Northern Irish and since 1947 Irish Champion Jackie Rea made his debut at the World Cup, but retired in the second qualifying round.
