The 1950 World Snooker Championship was a tournament that, for the first time, was held at Tower Circus in Blackpool , England .
For the fourth time in a row, the Scots Walter Donaldson and the Englishman Fred Davis faced each other in the final . This time Donaldson was able to secure his second and last world title with a 51:46 victory. In a direct comparison between the two players, it was 2: 2. After 145 frames had been played in the final in the previous years, this high number (only exceeded at the 1952 World Cup with 146 frames) was reduced to 97.
Davis achieved the highest break with 140 points.
For the first time ever in the history of the World Cup, a player from the African continent took part in the South African Peter Mans . He was eliminated in the first round match against the Canadian George Chenier , also a World Cup novice, with 34:37. It is not known why Chenier, in contrast to his compatriot Conrad Stanbury (multiple World Cup participant), was allowed to skip the qualification and take part in the main round.
The Welshman William Withers , who participated for the second time since 1937, was eliminated in the qualification against the now 64-year-old two-time World Cup finalist and two-time English Billiards World Champion Willie Smith with a clear 28: 7.
