The 1984 World Snooker Championship took place from April 21 to May 7, 1984 at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield .
World champion was - as in the previous year - the Englishman Steve Davis , who defeated his compatriot Jimmy White in the final with 18:16 and thus won his third world title. For White it was the first of a total of six World Cup finals in his career, but he could not win a single one.
The six-time world champion Fred Davis had aged 70 years and 8 months his last appearance at a World Cup finals and thus holds the still valid record for the oldest participants in a World Cup.
Rex Williams scored the highest break of the tournament of 138 points in frame 12 of his opening match against Jimmy White. The total tournament prize pool increased from £ 135,000 last year to £ 200,000.
