game schedule
Defending champion John Higgins was surprisingly eliminated in the second round against Ryan Day . Last year's finalist Mark Selby , however, had to admit defeat in round one. Liang Wenbo from China was the first Chinese ever to reach the quarter-finals in his first World Cup finals. For Allister Carter, the final was his first ever entry into the final of a ranking tournament.
final
For the first time since 1991 there was an all-English final. O'Sullivan quickly gained a lead, leading 6-2 after the first session and 11-5 after the first day. At 16: 8, the players went into the fourth and final, which then lasted only two frames before O'Sullivan could celebrate his third world title.

Century Breaks
Main round
For the first time in the history of the World Championship, two maximum breaks were played, first by Ronnie O'Sullivan and a day later by Ali Carter. As a result, the bonus rule was changed so that each player of such a break (in proportion to the number of maximum breaks he played) receives a bonus of £ 147,000. In addition, the prize for the highest Century Break of £ 10,000 was shared among these players.
A total of 63 Century Breaks were played, so the record from 2002 and 2007 of 68 Centuries was not improved. Ronnie O'Sullivan achieved the highest number with 12 Century Breaks.
